About XploraPro v1.5

Have you ever been lost anywhere? We were in that situation while hiking in a remote area with sporadic cell coverage. We wanted an app that would use that signal when it came to update our current position. We did not want a Satellite Tracker - although they can be useful in some situations - but for us - too expensive and how often would we use it anyway? So the idea for this app was born. Like all ideas it blossumed in all sorts of directions and became a fully featured tracking app with history, GPX generation and download and offline region map download selection for remote areas - amongst its many capabilities. It has been nearly three years in the making and it's going to be available to you for the price of a coffee!

This app is not just for hikers though - its for anyone, cyclists, town explorers or anyone that wants to know where they are and where they have been. Its for anyone that wants to keep track of their own movements with detailed stats and share them if required. There is much more to say about this app but for now, enjoy the ride!

So what does this XploraPro App allow me to do right now?
  1. Real-time position tracking and monitoring (with a historical line marking your track on the map)
  2. Map region selection and downloads for off-network tracking
  3. Distance, Speed, Altitude and Active time real-time monitoring
  4. Background tracking even if the app is terminated
  5. Track History
  6. Elevation-Elapsed Time Chart by Track
  7. Track Waypoint Marking
  8. Saving and exporting your Track to a GPX file
  9. Download and display a GPX file
  10. Backtracking (this is a work in progress so don't expect too much from this right now)
  11. Is available for iOS only at present- sorry Android users- Android may be available in the future

Where is my data stored? And is it secure?

Your actual location data will stay on your device. There is no account set up - so you can breath easy. Its a hiking app after all.

Why does my track on the map occasionally show gaps?

This App tries to be as accurate as possible in the information it provides to you the user, however, there are times when the location information your device receives is considerably slower than your speed - e.g. when in a car. This results in gaps in the information shown. If you slow down, you should see more accurate tracking. This is a limitation of using the device GPS. Also, it is important to select "Always Allow" the App to access your Location when prompted by the Device. If you select "When In Use" you will receive less location updates and your tracking will likely be sparse and incomplete

What is GPX format and can I export my track as GPX?

GPX format is used by modern GPS systems. You can export your Track as GPX and load that in to a GPS if required and vice-versa.

Can I import a GPX track in to the App?

Yes, if you have a URL you can download and view the GPX file in the map view.

Why does my elevation chart look angular and piecemeal at times?

Elevation data comes with quite a large error margin so if you start a new track and have only a couple of points the chart may look a bit angular. Once you collect more data it starts to take the shape of your actual elevation profile. Real-time chart updates occur as you move and even if you don't move.

Sending a GPX file via "Track List" -> "Export Points" / Export Icon does not seem to be working?

Do you have the Apple Mail app installed and working? You may need to download it and configure it first.
